Third generation Daruma doll maker – Mr Hirohisa Imai aims to create a mix of traditional craft Daruma doll making with contemporary designs. Takasaki is well-known town located in Gunma as an origin Daruma town.

A long established trade, Daruma dolls are often seen as a Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma that brings well wishes and good luck.

By breaking the normal norms of how a Daruma originally looks like, Imai Daruma brings in a new context and designs of Daruma to the current generation. To garner interests for people who are not aware of this long Daruma tradition, Imai Daruma works with international designers who gives a new insight and design take on a very traditional Daruma doll.
